A sea of orange balloons invaded the WA Museum - Kalgoorlie-Boulder as hundreds of families gathered to celebrate WA Day yesterday.

Pony rides, live performances from local and visiting talent, a bouncy castle and a dog show were just some of the activities at the museum's Come Out and Play event.

Museum manager Zoe Scott said she was blown away by the number of families who had decided to come and celebrate WA Day.

"We've been rushed off our feet, we can't believe how many people were here by 9.45am, it's just fantastic," she said.

"The courtyard is just this humungous kid and parent fest."

Things were also progressing well for the museum's newly formed digital cousin, with the intrepid Minecraft builders of the pop-up Minecrux event working hard to construct a video game copy of the building's iconic headframe.

Mother-of-five Josephine Paraka said WA Day represented a great time for her family to come to museum and participate in the activities.

"At other times we don't have enough time to see what the museum has, but today is a great day and the kids are really enjoying it with the public holiday," she said.

WA Day appeared to be hit with Evon Paraka, with the nine-year-old saying her favourite activity of the day had been watching a group of cheerleaders perform.

However the North Kalgoorlie Primary School student said she was also eagerly anticipating a visit to the bouncy castle.
