Fleay happy with depth of Diorites' abilities

Mines Rovers player-coach Dion Fleay says the squad's added depth has made for a seamless Goldfields Football League comeback from a knee reconstruction.

The former West Perth and WA star missed all of 2014, but said he was no longer feeling the same pressure to perform because of the squad's excellent start, which had yielded five wins against one loss.

The Diorites face arguably their biggest test of the season against defending premiers Railways tomorrow at Digger Daws Oval.

"It's been good, just to come into the team and play my role," Fleay said.

"We have some quality players who can really pick up a lot of the slack, especially in the midfield.

"These are versatile players who can float between lines, which is particularly good for a coach because there's not a lot of guys who are one-dimensional and restricted to a specific role."

The blue-and-whites head into tomorrow's clash boasting a one-game lead, plus percentage, at the head of the standings.

But the general feeling is Railways, who are third with three wins, are quickly building in form and confidence.

"Most games in this competition are big, but they (Railways) have been the benchmark for a long time," Fleay said.

"Railways play an excellent brand of football and are confident in their abilities."

Mines Rovers' selectors have promoted Callum Bramley, Jake Pennington and Ash Cooper, while Darcy Stevens and Aaron Giblett come out of the squad.
