Anthony Martin's motor racing career in the United States continues to blossom, with the former Goldfields go-karter grabbing third place on hallowed ground in the latest round of the 2015 USF2000 series.

Martin's latest effort occurred at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last weekend and comes after last month's maiden podium finish at Alabama's Birmingham's Barber Motorsports Park.

It has been a dream start to an overseas career for Martin, who occupies fourth place in the overall series standings after eight rounds with 145 points.

Martin said standing on the podium at Indianapolis, regarded as the racing capital of the world, was a dream come true.

"Every time you walk into Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the hairs on your arms stand up because of the history that has occurred there," he said.

"So to be standing up on the podium where many famous drivers have sprayed the champagne, and to be able to spray some myself, is an unimaginable feeling I can't honestly describe.

"I stood and celebrated in the very same spot where history has been made at one of the most prestigious race tracks in the world."

But the result had not been easy.

"We were happy with the result because of the limited time in practice I had," Martin said.

"We had an electrical gremlin in the car which sacrificed a lot of laps, so it was really hard to learn the track while also giving feedback on the car's handling back to my engineer.

"But the whole team worked extremely hard."

Martin has excelled since heading to the US in February after signing with Indianapolis-based John Cummiskey Racing for the 2015 series, which got under way in St Petersburg, Florida, in March.

The series extends to September, with 16 rounds at eight locations.

Round 9 will also be held at Indianapolis on May 23 before heading to Toronto, Canada for rounds 10 and 11 on June 12-14.

Lexington, Ohio, hosts rounds 12, 13 and 14 on July 30-August 2 and the series concludes with rounds 15 and 16 at California's Monterey circuit (September 10-13).
