Efforts of all players 'behind success'

Goldfields Giants captain Jay Bowie has attributed a "team-wide effort" as the reason behind the team's third-straight victory, defeating the Kalamunda Eastern Suns 105-89 on Saturday night.

All five Giants starters reached double figures, with Russell Hurst also adding a vital 15 points off the bench.

The team's collective efforts were highlighted by their domination of key statistics, beating the Suns in rebounding (54-46), assists (29-19) and bench points (24- 11).

Bowie said it was pleasing to see an even spread of scoring, especially after last week's victory saw himself, Mathiang Muo and Jacob Holmen score 87 of the team's 110 points.

"In the two games prior we won, it was three, maybe four guys getting most of the points and it wasn't balanced as it was tonight (Saturday)," he said.

"I want to see the rest of the way we can have five, six, seven guys scoring 10-plus points.

"Because it's going to be really hard for other teams to stop us if we can keep doing that."

As opposed to last week's win against Cockburn, Saturday night's victory was ground out in the second half.

Entering half-time two points up, the Giants secured the lead in the third quarter with a 19-9 run, which turned a one-point deficit into a nine-point advantage.

The Suns never regained the lead, and despite a 10-2 run in the dying minutes reducing the margin to just eight, the Giants got home with relative ease.

"In the past few games we've raced out to an early lead and coasted the rest of the way, whereas this week they really brought it to us in the first half," he said.

"(Jaarod) Holmes was really big for them early getting easy put backs, so after half-time we really focused on rebounding and getting out on the fast break.

"It worked really well for us, resulting in lots of easy shots in the third and fourth quarter which got us home."

Heading into next weekend's double-header against the Mandurah Magic and Perry Lakes Hawks, the Giants have the moving to the cusp of the top eight.

The team now sits just one game behind the 10th-placed Perth Redbacks, who fell to the Lakeside Lightning on Saturday 90- 80.

If the local squad can get up over the Magic and Hawks, it would move them to level pegging with the Lightning, who are equal-eighth with five wins.
