Simpson remains upbeat

Kalgoorlie coach Brendon Simpson is taking the squad's winless start in his stride, saying a young list "had to learn its way" ahead of tomorrow's Goldfields Football League clash with Boulder.

The Roos have opened 2015 with three losses, with Simpson pleased to be back in the fold after missing the past two rounds.

"I'm not going to say everything is rosy, but the reality is I'm trying to develop guys to play different positions, fill holes we have in our line-up or basically becoming league footballers," he said.

"I love a challenge and while we haven't had the best start, or even the best pre-season because there's been a mass exit (of players), we'll continue to push for greater success.

"We have a big game to contest this weekend and I like to look at it as the glass being half full, rather than half empty."

Simpson, whose experience includes a stint as an assistant-coach with Peel in the WAFL, said the key to ending any losing sequence was identifying weaknesses and quickly addressing them.

"I go out every time to win and if we lose, I do my best to work out why and then strive to be better the following weekend," he said.

"Put it this way, we're not going to leave anything out on the ground, especially with a bye coming up (in round 5)."

Refreshed after a bye, Boulder chase a second win after beating Kambalda by 53 points a fortnight ago.

The Tigers will look for more of the same from Jack Martin, Kyle Humphries, Chris Bowie and Karl Hogan who combined for 10 of the side's 14 goals.

Meanwhile, the Goldfields-Esperance region will be represented by eight players in today's colts curtain-raiser to the AFL clash between Fremantle and Sydney at Domain Stadium.

The WA Country Football League this week named 40 youngsters who will be split into two competitive teams.

Goldfields footballers Ryan Borchet, Callum Bramley, Brandon Bramley, Dwayne Graham and Dylan Trow are joined in the squad by Esperance's Kyle Capelli, Chris Harding and Brayden Harris.
