Eagles fine-tune side

Kambalda selectors have recalled ruckman Guy Smith and promoted Hayden Prout as they look to turn the tables on reigning premiers Railways in tonight's Goldfields Football League clash.

The Eagles cruised to their first win of 2015 last Saturday night against Kalgoorlie, but face a far stiffer challenge in the nickel town against classy opposition coming off a loss to Mines Rovers.

The magnitude of the assignment was not lost on Kambalda coach Justin Tarasinski, whose squad, while winning comfortably in round 3, took most of the second quarter off.

Against a team of Railways' calibre, Tarasinski said, a similar fade-out could prove disastrous.

"We won (last weekend), but it still wasn't a 100 per cent polished performance, especially with a couple of lapses there which allowed Kalgoorlie to kick successive goals," he said.

"A good, solid four-quarter effort is not too far away, once the players get that experience of playing together, learning each other's styles and really grasping the game plan.

"But the reality is, we can't have lapses because quality sides like Railways can really put you to the sword even in the space of just a few minutes, which can cost you three or four goals."

In Railways' camp, Jacob Miller and Norman Stubbs come into selection consideration, along with 2011 Mitchell Medallist Brodie Peterson.

The Panthers were dealt a rare defeat by 26 points last weekend in a display coach Craig Alderdice said was a fair way off the usual high standards.

"We were disappointing last weekend with our goalkicking (7.15), which really let us down," he said.

"I thought we probably had more of the ball than they (Mines Rovers) did, but I thought our forward line pressure wasn't where it needed to be.

"The boys don't like losing, no-one does, but we have to get those areas corrected."
