Police on alert as bikies ride in

Esperance police were on high alert at the weekend as a contingent of Club Deroes bikie gang members stayed in town.

About 40 riders associated with the notorious WA motorcycle gang arrived in the southern coastal town on Friday, staying at a property about 8km from the central business district for two nights.

Police said the majority of gang members were well-behaved but reported one incidence of reckless driving on Fisheries Road.

Police allege one gang member rode his bike between two vehicles travelling towards each other.

Esperance police officer-in-charge Richard Moore said it was fortunate there was not a crash.

Senior Sergeant Moore said the Club Deroes members left Esperance on Sunday, about noon, and were believed to be riding towards Kalgoorlie.

"Although these people belong to an organised crime gang who distribute drugs and intimidate people, it was pleasing to see the majority abided by the road laws and did not disrupt the community over the Easter weekend," he said.
