After more than two decades of service in the Goldfields, police prosecutor and local squash legend Senior Constable Shane White has decided to move on.

The 55-year-old recently received confirmation of his transfer to the prosecuting team in Perth, drawing a curtain on his life in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Arriving as a fresh-faced recruit in 1985, Sen. Const. White spent two years on the front line before relocating to Perth.

But the Goldfields lifestyle eventually drew him back in 1993 for much longer period of time.

Sen. Const. White and his wife Karen had their three children complete their schooling in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, while becoming intertwined with the tight-knit community.

A former State-level squash player, Sen. Const. White became the director of the Golden Open in 1995, a role he held for 11 years. He was no stranger to speaking his mind in a community forum either — he could regularly be found inside the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder council chambers on Monday evenings.

In his policing career, Sen. Const. White worked a diverse range of departments, including Aboriginal liaison, domestic violence and community engagement with the PCYC.

But it was in prosecuting that he found his niche.

“It’s the most passionate I’ve been in relation to the force, ” he said.

“I enjoyed some good work out in the field, though, especially when I was younger, catching the baddies … there’s some excitement about it.

“At my age now, though, I’m happy to work behind the scenes.”

Sen. Const. White and his wife will move to Mandurah to live in their newly built home.

But with strong family connections, the Goldfields veteran expects it will not be long before he ventures back.
