Boulder have emerged as major players on the early clearances front, with a string of newcomers seeking to join the Tigers for the 2015 Goldfields Football League season, which opens in April.

After improving from no wins in 2013 to notch five last season, the black and golds have won the services of Karl Hogan from the WA Amateurs and Shannon Fernando from the Central Midlands Coastal Football League.

Clearances for Alex Devitt (South West), Ashley Grove (Lower South West), Derryn Humphries (Peel), Fraser Millar (South West) and Jebb Swallow (Upper Great Southern) are pending.

Matt Worthington is also looking to rejoin his original club from Kalgoorlie.

On the flipside, promising youngster Sebastian Wellstead is seeking a clearance from Boulder to Kalgoorlie.

Boulder started pre-season training on January 19 under returning coach Bradley George, who believes the squad can make big improvements after losing a series of close games last year.

The Tigers returned to the finals, but bowed out of flag contention with a 33-point loss to Mines Rovers in the first semifinal.

George confirmed he would retain the bulk of last year’s squad, but was not getting carried away with what a batch of new players might bring to the group.

“Every year, blokes come and go and at the end of the day, you’re judged on wins,” he said.

“We made some inroads last year, but my message has been to be happy with that but not satisfied.

“We’ve picked up a few blokes but, as always, it’s a case of seeing how they gel with each other and the rest of the group.”

Kalgoorlie have also been active, with Railways’ Chris Adams seeking to join the Roos, along with Alex Carter (Cairns), Ben Jenkins (Mortlock), Wade Pascoe (Peel), Warrick Simpson (Lower South West) and Chris Wyatt (Great Southern).

Mines Rovers’ newcomers include Luke Burgess (Bendigo), former club star Steve Dewar (Mortlock), Patrick Eisenlohr (East Fremantle Districts), Elliott Fitts and Sam Laporta (West Kimberley), Josh Marangon (WA Amateurs) and Bryn Papalia (South West).
