Staff at Ngunytju Tjitji Pirni in Kalgoorlie-Boulder have to deal with the serious side of life every day.

The health service has been developed to address "unacceptably high" rates of Aboriginal maternal and infant death and illness in WA.

But staff decided they needed some colour in the office last week, staging a bad taste dress-up to take casual Friday to a new level.

Staff member Kim Epis said the team had no reason to dress casually, just a need to lighten the office mood. "We don't have a lot of clients on a Friday, so it was the best day to do it," she said.

"The theme was bad taste and the only thing which was compulsory was everyone had to wear fishnet stockings."

Pink wigs, leopard print, an oversized pacifier and a West Coast Eagles guernsey all qualified under the bad taste theme.

NTP health workers regularly visit Aboriginal women in their homes during pregnancy.

After the birth, the health worker will check the baby's weight, growth and immunisations.
