Secret recipe means big Easter business for bakery

Easter eggs are not the only guilty pleasure Goldfielders indulge in at Easter time.

One Kalgoorlie-Boulder bakery produces more than 250 packets of hot-cross buns a day.

For Kalgoorlie Country Bakers, formerly known as Pridmore Family Bakery, Easter is one of the busiest times of the year, as hungry residents flock to the store every morning for freshly made buns.

Manager Carol Funazzi said the store had been using the same secret hot-cross bun recipe for more than 10 years.

"Hot-cross buns are very popular here in the community, we sell about 600 packets in the few days before Easter," she said.

"Year after year, we have people coming in who are looking forward to them.

"We usually only start making them for the week of Easter but because of the demand we started making them two weeks earlier this year."

Mrs Funazzi said some days were busier than others, just like any other time of the year.

"We have a mine site that comes in and orders 170 packets every year so they have a traditional Easter morning tea every year," she said.

"Our bakers will be extra busy for those days."

The store will be closed tomorrow until Tuesday for the Easter holidays.
