Cull helps to protect native fauna, flora

Participants culled 690 foxes this year.

A record number of foxes have been culled during two Stockbrands Red Card for Rabbits and Foxes shoots in the Esperance district.

Two shoots were held over the weekends of February 21 to 23 and March 28 to 30, with 690 foxes culled, up from 605 last year.

Esperance co-ordinator Andrew Heinrich said a large number of rabbits had also been culled, which helped to remove vermin from the environment and raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

It was the third year in-a-row the Esperance community has been involved in fundraising event.

“Removing feral pests is a major benefit for our local flora and fauna,” Mr Heinrich said.

Cliffs Natural Resources supported the shoot by donating prizes this year and also supports the event in Southern Cross.
