Cemetery's new facilities opened

The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Cemetery officially opened upgrades to its facilities with a function on Friday afternoon.

The function was attended by 25 people including the chairwoman of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Cemetery Board, Kerry Everett, while Father Andrew Bowran addressed the crowd.

The facility’s upgrades include an extension to the chapel, new disabled toilets as well as two new pergolas.

Cemetery manager Gaye Newton said the upgrades would help people feel more comfortable during tough times.

“Funerals are never a pleasant experience, but we always try to make the experience as comfortable as possible,” Ms Newton said. “The pergolas will make the biggest difference, as they will protect people from the Goldfields sun.”

Funding for the upgrades was sourced from the Goldfields-Esperance Development Scheme, Royalties for Regions and the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
