Shaun leaves Fields for life in the army

A Kalgoorlie-Boulder teenager has farewelled family and friends to begin training as an officer at the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra.

Shaun Gill is one of 10 high school graduates from across WA to be recruited.

The Eastern Goldfields College graduate was appointed an officer cadet (general service officer pilot) in the Australian Army.

As a cadet, Shaun will undertake a three-year military and academic program while studying for an undergraduate degree from his choice of arts, business, engineering, information technology, science or technology.

“I can’t wait to take on the challenge,” he said.

“I know I am going to be fine but it is still a big step for me.”
