Fields officer to study with FBI

A Kalgoorlie-based forensics officer will head to the US next month to study with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

First Class Constable Mike Lee is the only WA Police officer travelling to the University of Tennessee’s famous Anthropological Research Facility, also known as the Body Farm, to sharpen his skills in human remains recovery.

Const Lee has a degree and a doctorate in geology and is undertaking a Masters Degree with the University of WA, including research in forensic entomology which is the study of insects.

He said it was a big honour to be chosen to train with the FBI.

“Goldfields-Esperance district forensic officers have had a lot of success in recent months, particularly in relation to burglaries,” Const Lee said.

“A large proportion of offenders have been identified by forensic evidence they have left behind at the scene of the crime. This course will help develop my skills even further and allow me to pass on that knowledge to other officers.”
