Driver unaware child was injured

A five-year-old girl who was hit by a taxi driver while pulling into a petrol station suffered a broken leg in two places, a Kalgoorlie court has heard.

The driver, Lindsay David Eaton, 65, pleaded not guilty to two charges in the Kalgoorlie District Court yesterday.

These charges include failing to ensure the alleged victim received all the assistance, including medical aid, that was necessary and practicable, and failing to report the incident to the police.

The charges against Mr Eaton have been made more serious because the State has alleged the girl suffered grievous bodily harm.

Defence counsel, Tom Percy, told the jury on day one of the trial yesterday that Mr Eaton, who has never been convicted of an offence, was not aware the girl had been injured when she was struck by his car.
