Support for Hope Week

Esperance people have been responsive to the message of hope during the inaugural Hope Week, according to 1life community co-ordinator Natalia Scott.

Ms Scott said the inaugural event, featuring displays, a workshop and sausage sizzles held this week, had helped to get getting people talking about mental health issues and sharing their stories.

“Hope Week has been really well received by the community,” she said.

“We’ve had a lot of people come up to us and talk about and share their stories about loved ones that they’ve lost or experiences they’ve had with people who have been suicidal.”

Ms Scott said about 50 people of all ages and from all walks of life had written messages of hope and posted them into a chest.

“We have a lot of messages which has been amazing,” she said.
