Man avoids jail after restaurant assault

A Kalgoorlie man has been given nine months in jail, suspended for 12 months, after punching another man and breaking his nose.

Daniel James Thompson, 21, appeared in the Kalgoorlie Magistrate’s Court charged with assault causing bodily harm.

The court heard Thompson was at a restaurant on Hannan Street in October when he became involved in an argument with another man.

Thompson hit the man in the face, knocking him unconscious and breaking his nose.

The assault victim was taken to hospital by ambulance and was later transferred to a Perth hospital for specialist treatment.
