More problems are on the horizon for the Goldfields Arts Centre, according to Members of the Arts Centre president Kevin Blair.
Although most are confident the centre will not be shut down, Mr Blair said it was being “chained down in red-tape” and is unable to take commercial bookings past August.
“The problem we have is theatre bookings and entertainment venue bookings happen 12-18 months in advance,” Mr Blair said.
“There is already a pile of shows that have been presented to Kalgoorlie and are not able to be booked because they are happening after August this year and there is no single entity that can sign those bills.
“The GAC is like a business entity and if there’s not somebody legally behind them backing them saying ‘yes, we are legally responsible for these bookings’, then nothing can happen.”
Without any commercial shows or workshops booked in, the Goldfields Arts Centre would be completely quiet apart from the odd local performance. Mayor Ron Yuryevich said this should not be the case.
