Demand for flights

Passengers will be the big winners as competition between rivals Qantas and Skywest Airlines intensifies on the Kalgoorlie-Boulder air route.

Skywest yesterday unveiled a new Monday morning service for business travellers which departs Kalgoorlie-Boulder at 7am, arriving in Perth at 8am.

The new service begins on January 21.

Skywest head of commercial Stephen Pearse said the new flight is a result of the airline’s efforts to get the best result from the Kalgoorlie-Boulder market.

“It’s been six months now since we went significantly into Kalgoorlie with the double-daily jet,” he said.

“So we’ve been busy looking at how things have been performing.

“Obviously now the demand is more Monday to Friday rather than weekends, so we’re looking to try and find ways to use what we’ve got and work the schedule to the best advantage for Kalgoorlie-Boulder residents and for us.”
