Safety reminder for Fields drivers

A Christmas tree is on display at the Department of Transport office to remind people to take care on the roads this festive season.

Part of the RoadWise White Ribbons for Road Safety campaign, the tree has been set up by the Kalgoorlie-Boulder RoadWise Committee.

Committee chairman John Joyce said white ribbons had also been made available at the region’s police stations, council and transport offices as part of the campaign.

“We want them to put (the ribbons) on their car aerials; to hand them out to their family and friends,” Mr Joyce said.

He said anytime was a dangerous time to be on the roads, but a lot of people would be driving to the coast or to Perth for the Christmas period.

“One of the things I recommend is they just have a photo of their family – mum, dad, brothers and sisters – and stick it up on your windscreen where you have your ‘next service’ sticker and then if you think of doing something idiotic, just have a look and think, ‘that’s the ones I am going to hurt’,” Mr Joyce said.
