Parents punished after death

The mother and father of a 17-year-old boy accused of the murder of a teenage girl in a Northern Goldfields community have been targeted with tribal punishment.

The girl was found dead by police in the community on Sunday and have charged the boy with her murder.

But the boy’s parents were targeted with tribal punishment after the death, with the father being assaulted, while a car belonging to his mother was set alight.

Warburton community adviser Damien McLean confirmed this took place soon after the death.

“They were just two events that happened,” Mr McLean said.

“It wasn’t like there was a riot or anything like that.”
