21 burglaries
Kalgoorlie police are urging residents to be on their guard after 21 burglaries were reported at the weekend.
Offenders were able to gain access through unsecured doors or windows in nine of these incidents.
Senior Sergeant Danny Vincent said the Great Moscow Circus and St Barbara’s Day Parade meant most people were out of their homes at some stage, contributing to the massive increase.
“Due to Operation Videl, which has been targeting burglaries at night, we have also seen an increase in offences during the daytime,” Sgt Vincent said.
Officers from the District Support Group and the Kalgoorlie Inquiry Team were out all day yesterday conducting inquiries.
Two arrests have been made so far.
