The Eastern Goldfields Cricket Association’s A grade turf campaign is shaping up as the closest it has been for several years after Great Boulder and Hannans both posted key victories on Saturday.
Great Boulder drew level with North Kalgoorlie at the head of the standings with 24 points on the strength of a six-wicket triumph over Lake View.
Set 152 for victory, the Two Blues initially slumped to 1-11 before Matt Cannan (37) and all-rounder Josh Rushmore (43) steadied ship with a second-wicket partnership worth 67.
Cannan and Damien Sweet (29) then put on 57 as last season’s beaten grand finalists eventually cruised to a third victory.
Chris Watson grabbed two wickets, but the Viewers had earlier paid a heavy price for a poor start when they slumped to 4-38.
Among the top order, only Michael Worthington (49) was able to offer any genuine resistance as Rushmore grabbed the prized scalps of Jarrod Lucas, Matt Gow, Jeremy Leatherbarrow and David Forrest. Worthington got off the mark with three consecutive boundaries.
