Wounding accusation

A 36-year-old man will face court today accused of unlawful assault and unlawful wounding of his partner.

Matthew Mitchell, of no fixed address, will front the Kalgoorlie Magistrate’s Court today charged with unlawful assault and unlawful wounding in circumstances of aggression.

He appeared in the Kalgoorlie Magistrate’s Court on Saturday, but was refused bail over concerns he may be a “flight risk”.

It will be alleged Mr Mitchell, who was camping with his 41-year-old partner near the Ninga Mia community, struck his partner two times to the head after she returned home intoxicated on November 30.

It is believed the argument between the pair continued and Mr Mitchell is also alleged to have stabbed his partner three times to the torso.

His partner is then believed to have walked into the Kalgoorlie CBD where she was treated by St John ambulance officers after Mr Mitchell had fallen asleep.

Mr Mitchell, who represented himself, did not enter a plea.
