Late-night attack

A vicious attack on a Kalgoorlie-Boulder taxi driver yesterday morning has left him traumatised and unwilling to continue working in the industry.

Khodadad Ali, a 29-year-old from Afghanistan, was parked at the taxi rank outside Monty’s restaurant at 1.20am yesterday when the attack occurred.

Mr Ali said he was parked when three men approached his vehicle asking for a ride home.

“I was about to let them into my car when they started kicking and smashing the car when I politely asked them not to kick the car, ” Mr Ali said.

“I was talking to one guy when another came along and hit me in the head (with a bottle) and I fell out of the car. When I was on the ground he kicked me in the head.

“The first two guys jumped in my taxi and drove off while the other guy chased me up the road. Luckily another taxi came along and took me to the hospital.”

The Twin City Cabs driver received head injuries, but was released from hospital yesterday morning.
