Christmas well on its way
Christmas well on its way

The countdown to the festive season is well and truly under way, with only one week to go until the annual lighting of the Christmas tree.

St Barbara’s Square will be illuminated next Thursday when a street festival will be held to celebrate the lighting of the tree, which last year attracted more than 2500 people.

Entertainment of all kinds will be rolled out by the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder for the occasion, including a stage show and street performers, along with snow flake making and tree decorating. Santa and his better half, Mrs Claus, are also expected to drop in to meet with children and help mayor Ron Yuryevich light the Christmas tree. Mr Yuryevich said it was a “great community event”.

“It also signals the start of the festive period and the City encourages everyone to support local retailers when Christmas shopping,” he said.

The festival starts at 6pm. Hannan and Cassidy streets will be closed from 3pm while preparations for the event are carried out.

The twin city will celebrate the lighting of another tree on November 24 when the Boulder Christmas tree takes centre stage at Carols in the Park.
