Thousands attend Pets' Day Out

If you imagined the general population of Kalgoorlie-Boulder could be neatly sorted into the categories of dog-people and cat-people, think again.

While there were plenty of pooches and furry felines in evidence, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s second annual Pets’ Day Out showed residents are just as keen on other animals with goldfish and even a goat at Centennial Park for the big event.

Numbers were good for the fun day out, which boasted a whole range of events including a free petting zoo, a reptile farm, pet agility demonstrations and pony rides.

There was even a pet communicator on-hand, while the important message of getting pets micro-chipped was also emphasised.

City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder events co-ordinator Pia Timu said despite the weather, the Pets’ Day Out had been a great success.

“We had almost 2000 people and their pets attend this year’s event, which is a significant increase on last year’s attendance,” she said.
