Kokoda Girls to relive their trek

The Kalgoorlie Kokoda Girls are set to relive their journey through the Papua New Guinea jungle in one last fundraising effort for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Kathryn Paynter, Karen Crook, Heather Lavery, Allison Puckett and Joy Cooke raised more than $20,000 for the RFDS ahead of their 96km trek in August. It won them the prestigious Charity Award at the annual RFDS Ball in Perth last month.

The group is now set to raffle off its prize – a trip for two to the Bungle Bungles in the Kimberley valued at $7000 – at a special event at the Hannans Club on Friday night.

Video footage of the women trekking, filmed by Mrs Paynter, will be shown along with a photo slide show.

“It’s just a way to say thanks to everyone who supported us, ” Mrs Puckett said.

“It was a great experience and the fact we were able to raise so much money was a bonus.

“Anyone who is considering walking the track should come along because we would be happy to tell them all about it.”

Tickets are $10 and the event gets under way at 6.30pm.
