Classic time for Walters
Classic time for Walters

It has been a week to remember for Kambalda golfer Jason Walters.

Claiming the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Classic at his first attempt on Sunday, a win which also secured him a start in next week’s WA Goldfields PGA Championship, Walters capped off a memorable few days by celebrating his 30th birthday on Monday.

“It is huge and a very good feeling, ” Walters said.

“I was just happy to be out there playing some competitive golf.

“There is a spot for me now in the PGA tournament coming up and that was in the back of my mind.”

Shooting scores of 76 and 74, Walters proved too strong for the field, winning by three shots from Grant Lewis.

Dave Stewart, who led after the opening round, following a brilliant 72, came third after a second round of 82.

A member of the local club for more than a year, Walters said his local knowledge played a part in his victory, despite not wanting to know where he was placed.

“You have to know that golf course, ” he said.
