Kalgoorlie Primary School principal Leonie Clelland has been named as a semi-finalist in this year’s WA Education Awards.

Ms Clelland, who was announced as one of 10 semi-finalists for the WA Primary Principal of the Year award, said she was taken aback by the milestone.

“It’s very exciting,” Ms Clelland said.

“I am quite overwhelmed, firstly to be nominated, but also to have been named as a semi-finalist.”

Student numbers at the school have increased by 200 during Ms Clelland’s four years at the helm, but the enthusiastic educator said it was a “culture of collaboration” driving the school’s success.

She said student performance data at the school was also continuing to improve, a feat she modestly attributed to “great teachers”.
