Race Round romantics

There could be no better way to end the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Race Round than a surprise marriage proposal.

Kenneth Laing used the backdrop of Saturday’s event at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Race Course to propose to his girlfriend and Kalgoorlie Miner journalist, Leticia Quintana.

Mr Laing pulled together the surprise in the Slattery Legal tent, which was jam-packed with the couple’s friends.

Ms Quintana emotionally accepted the proposal with everyone breaking out in song to The Beatles classic, ‘All You Need is Love’.

He presented her a gold nugget from the Goldfields and will buy a gold nugget from Victoria, where they first met, and silver from Argentina, where Ms Quintana’s mother is from, to make a ring.

“She means a lot to me and has looked after me,” Mr Laing said. “(But) it has been hard because I have been studying at the Westrac Institute in Perth for a month now.”

The couple have known each other for four years and moved to Kalgoorlie-Boulder in 2010.
