Cup postponed in disastrous start to Round

Several leading trainers are likely to scratch runners from Saturday’s $150,000 Race Round showcase following yesterday’s postponement of the Boulder Cup.

The seven-race card was called off after stewards deemed the local track “unsafe” due to a waterlogged section at the 50m mark. The Boulder Cup will now be run on Wednesday in conjunction with the $130,000 Hannans Handicap meeting.

Leading Perth trainer Dion Luciani declared Boulder Cup favourite Amelias Dancer an unlikely starter in Saturday’s Kalgoorlie Cup.

“I would say it would just be a straight out ‘no’ that he wouldn’t run in the Kalgoorlie Cup,” Luciani said.

“It seems quite ridiculous they have put the meeting on Wednesday.

“All of a sudden now you will have a lot of horses dropping away from the Kalgoorlie Cup. It will now probably be a field of 10 horses and half of them maidens because you won’t have the horses to back up.
