Get healthy with two and five every day

Goldfielders are being urged to stock up on fruit and vegetables this month.

“This September is Fruit and Veg Month and we are all encouraged to remember to go for two and five for better health,” Goldfields Population Health nutrition co-ordinator Rachael Nugent said.

“Adequate intake of fruits and vegetables can help us maintain a healthy weight and prevent diseases such as heart disease, type two diabetes and some cancers.”

Most Australians only eat half the amount of fruit and vegetables recommended for good health and the Goldfields population is no exception.

“The Goldfields has some improvements to make when it comes to fruit and vegetable intake,” Ms Nugent said. “Fifty-two per cent of adults and 27 per cent of children are not eating the recommended serves of fruit and 90 per cent of adults and 36 per cent of children are not eating the recommended serves of vegetables.”
