Prestigious accolade for Gyro

Kalgoorlie-Boulder's Business Person of the Year, James Buchanan, still can’t come to terms with winning the prestigious accolade.

Mr Buchanan, 37, the owner of Gyro Australia, won the award at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry Business and Employee Awards on Saturday night.

Gyro, a locally based surveying company using gyroscopic technology which started in 2010, also took out the best business with 11-20 employees category.

The judges said his business was “a wonderful example of what could be achieved by taking advantage of opportunities others failed to notice and a strong belief in what you wanted to achieve”.

“What we have is a brave young person who is realising a dream that has continued to evolve,” the judges said.

“The business is providing technology and expertise to all sectors of exploration and will influence the destiny of many miners around the globe. The financial and management structure of this business is of the highest order.”
