Appeals to help those in need

The annual Mayor’s Blanket Appeal and the Goldfields Health and Shelter Group’s Winter Coat appeal have joined forces to cover the region – literally.

Residents are urged to dig out their unwanted coats, blankets and winter woollies and donate them so all Goldfielders can be cosy during our chilly winter.

The blanket appeal began in the mid-1990s and deputy mayor Allan Pendal said combining it with the coat appeal this year seemed an ideal way to streamline procedures and make both appeals more effective.

“Goldfields winters can be notoriously cold and for someone who is homeless, can be life threatening,” Mr Pendal said.

“I encourage everyone to support the cause and give what they can for those who are doing it tough.”

Goldfields Health and Shelter Group representative Erica Johns said there was a lot of need in the community and she saw it every day.
