Face of Laverton

Representatives from State Government agencies met with vocal opposition yesterday during a Regional Heads of State Government Agencies meeting held in Laverton.

Up to 40 residents awaited agency heads outside the Shire of Laverton offices bearing placards and a sign which read “Laverton: the Goldfields town the Government forgot” and “Don’t forget us again”.

Karyn Vincent was one Laverton resident who attended the protest.

Speaking to the Kalgoorlie Miner, Ms Vincent said the community had been asking for a short-stay accommodation facility since 2008.

“It’s 2012 and still nothing,” Ms Vincent said.

“There are animals in Perth zoo living better than us.”

Mother-of-two Jasmine Brown said the protestors wanted to show the group the “real face” of people in Laverton.
