WASM camp gives students a taste of career in resources

Students from around the State are getting a behind-the-scenes look at the mining industry this week, as part of the Western Australian School of Mines Focus on Mining camp.

The annual camp, which began on Monday, aims to give students considering a career in the resources sector a first-hand look at the industry.

WASM director Steve Hall said the camp helped increase awareness among students about the mining industry.

“It’s quite significant the numbers that come from that group that end up graduating,” Mr Hall said.

“It could easily be as many as a third or a half of them will come through the school of mines and spend quite a number of years in Kalgoorlie.”

A group of 30 students joined this year’s camp, participating in workshops, visiting mine sites and meeting industry leaders.
