The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Foodbank had its first birthday on Wednesday.
According to Foodbank WA Kalgoorlie-Boulder manager Butch Lassey, Foodbank was the fastest growing business in town and there would continue to be “incredible growth” of the business in the next 12 months.
“It’s been a blessing to agencies…they’ve been able to feed more people than ever before,” Mr Lassey said.
Mr Lassey said since Foodbank first opened in Kalgoorlie-Boulder there had been a five-fold increase in demand for its services.
“This time last year we donated 4000kg a month, last month we donated 18,000kg,” he said.
“In our first year we donated 140,000kg of food.”
Twelve volunteers work at the Foodbank including several who assisted for the entire year-long lifespan of the business.
Kalgoorlie-Boulder Foodbank supplies fresh fruit, vegetables and dry goods to every major welfare organisation in town.
