The Goldfields Giants will play tomorrow night’s State Basketball League fixture against the Rockingham Flames at the Kambalda Community Recreation Centre.
While the Giants have played pre-season games previously in Esperance and Kambalda, it is the first time the side has contested an official home fixture away from the Brookman Street Stadium. Giants chairman Daniel Bowler said the idea to host the game in Kambalda had been on the cards for some time.
“At the start of the year, Jill O’Brien from the Kambalda Shire approached us about playing a regular-season game out there,” Bowler said.
“She has been fantastic and has secured a lot of local sponsorship to get involved and jump onboard.
“We have CPC Engineering generously donating their time and also their scaffolding to set up a 600-person grandstand.
“That will be where the general public sit and we will have another six tiers on the other side of the court for the public sponsors.”
