Roaring start has Tigers camp happy

Chapman Athletic's Tom Mitic is always dangerous at both ends of pitch.

Chapman Athletic welcome back two key players for their round 2 clash on Tuesday.

Excitement machine Sonnie Chikomo and Jayden Licastro will return to the Tigers side which won 5-1 against Batavia United last weekend.

Coach Carlo Licastro said this was the best Chapman side in a generation and he was happy to get the points in round 1, despite having four A-grade players out.

“Being a first round and with school holidays we were missing a few players, ” he said.

“It’s not the ideal time to start the season on the school holidays but we made do.”

“Unfortunately our Black side lost to Heat’s B-grade team, otherwise it would’ve been a perfect start, but having two out of three sides winning isn’t bad.”

The Tigers take on their B-grade side, Chapman Black, in the first Midwest Soccer Association game of the season under lights.

Tigers fans will be happy with Chris Scott returning to the pitch, however, he will pull the boots on for Chapman’s B-grade side.

Licastro said he wanted his side to improve on some of the smaller things on Tuesday.

“It’s important that we focus on how we maintain possession of the ball, ” he said.

“We don’t want to go out and embarrass our B-grade.

“It’s just a matter of trying to keep possession and play good football.”

Licastro said this year’s combined competition was the best way for the competition to work.

“There were only four A-grade teams and we ended up playing each other five times last year, ” he said.

“For us it’s better because you’re only playing everyone twice.

“Our two B-grade teams are up to the challenge, they like it.”
