A tourist from Hong Kong has drowned at Turquoise Bay near Exmouth.

The 29-year-old woman was part of a tour group visiting the area on March 6.

Exmouth Police officer in charge Sergeant Alby Van Den Berg said the woman was not a confident swimmer but had entered the water on her own, away from the rest of the group.

She was found floating in the water.

There was very little current at Turquoise Bay at the time.

The woman was given first aid and CPR at the scene and was then taken to Exmouth Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Sgt Van Den Berg paid credit to those administering first aid.

“The first aid and CPR given by people at the scene, Department of Parks and Wildlife staff and St John
Ambulance officers was to an exceptionally high level,” he said.

Sgt Van Den Berg reminded people that when swimming in unfamiliar areas it was important to have someone with you and make yourself aware of your surroundings.
