School reeling over flight tragedy

The tragedy of Flight MH17 has hit Geraldton Senior High School.

Nick Norris, who perished with his three grandchildren and nearly 300 other people when their plane was targeted, was a well-respected former teacher at the school.

Mr Norris taught at GHS between 1968 and 1972.

“Nick and I started at GHS the same year. He was an English and French teacher and, as Captain Norris, was a very enthusiastic leader of the army cadets,” former long-serving principal Jim Trevaskis said.

“I have taken a lot of calls from former students. They are shocked and have very fond memories of Nick.

“He was a first year teacher when he started at Geraldton Senior High.

“I last saw him at Nannup when he was the principal there and I was on a caravanning holiday.”

Mr Trevaskis was the principal of GHS for nearly 20 years.
