The force is strong with this one...

He's on a mission from a galaxy far, far away - and as Obi-Wan said to Luke, he needs your help.

Stormtrooper Scott Loxley, a 45-year-old father of three, is walking around Australia to try to raise $100,000 for the new Monash Children's Hospital, due to open in Melbourne in 2016.

Mr Loxley is a member of the 501st Legion, an international volunteering Star Wars costuming organisation that supports children's charities around the world.

Since November, he has trudged about 3800 kilometres from Melbourne to Geraldton, with no support crew, battling heat, fatigue, dust and flies - in armour designed for galactic warfare, not a long-distance march.

Geraldton is the last stop on the current leg of his journey.

He had hoped to make it all around Australia, but his wife has fallen ill and he flies out on Monday night to be by her side.

How to help

Mr Loxley will be fundraising today with local members of the 501st from 5.30pm to 6.45pm at Sun City Cinema, next to the Dome.

Sun City Cinema will also take up a collection and will donate $1 from all kids tickets to tonight's screening of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

On Monday, Mr Loxley and members of the 501st will be at The Athlete's Foot, Stirlings Central, from 9.30 for several hours, and later at SportFirst in Marine Terrace.

The Athlete's Foot has donated socks and shoes to Mr Loxley, while SportFirst has donated a compression shirt and pants to wear under his armour.
