Fantastic finish to junior season

Exmouth Amateur Swimming Club celebrate at their wind-up after finishing a successful season with the North West Open in Karratha.

Exmouth Amateur Swimming Club finished off a fantastic season with 35 swimmers travelling to a successful final meet in Karratha for the North West Open over the weekend of March 28 to 30.

The hard work put in by the swimmers and their coaches over the season was evident with many personal bests smashed, two records broken and a whole pile of medals and a trophy being brought back to Exmouth.

Club president Steve Haines said that once again he was impressed by the development the young Exmouth swimmers have achieved over the year.

“There’s the overall development throughout the year and then there’s the way some of the younger kids are stepping out of their comfort zones to push themselves by entering in longer distances,” he said.

He added that the North West Open was an individual event but that all the Exmouth swimmers support each other in very much a team atmosphere.

He said he was extremely proud of both the swimmers and their coaches.

There were many exceptional achievements made by the Exmouth swimmers, especially in breaking personal best times.

Some of the standout performances included Bronte Barnes, who broke the 50 metre butterfly record for her age group and then went on to be named Junior Champion girl for 10-years-old and under.

Louise Brandsma knocked a minute off her 400 metre freestyle personal best while nine-year-old Indi Strom took 41 seconds off the 200 metre individual medley swimming against 10, 11 and 12-yearolds.

Jordan Ogg knocked 28 seconds off his 200 metre breaststroke personal best and Sam Fitzgerald broke the 50 metre backstroke record previously held by his big brother Kal.
