Rested: Georgina Hallewell with Gordon Spowart’s Statewide. Spowart is aiming for three wins from three starts for the State City gelding.

Gordon Spowart is hoping last weekend’s cautious approach will pay dividends when Statewide contests the Mitchell & Brown Communications Handicap (1400m) at Geraldton on Sunday.

The State City gelding held out the fast-finishing Mr Lonely over 1400m before scoring a comfortable victory over Gannochy when stepping up to the mile.

Spowart is confident Statewide, who will jump from barrier nine for Ben Paterson, is racing well enough to make it three wins from as many starts.
