Upset: Dark Reckoning passes race favourite Silver Minx in the shadows of the post at Geraldton Turf Club yesterday to win the February 23rd Extra Meeting Maiden (1618m).

Gordon Spowart returned to a familiar position and staked his claims for another trainer of the year honour at Geraldton Turf Club yesterday when Dark Reckoning powered home to win the February 23rd Extra Meeting Maiden (1618m).

Spowart and jockey Patrick Carbery returned to the winner’s circle with a half-length win over hot favourite Silver Minx in the second race on the card.

Carbery had the four-year-old poised to strike in eighth position on the home turn and took the outside route to find the winning post.

Steel Buy ran on into third position.
