Roadworks 'hurting shops'

One business owner has been forced to shut shop and others are losing thousands by the day as works and closures at the Place and Flores roads intersection continue to drag on.

With the project months behind completion, business owners are outraged that contractors weren’t employed around-the-clock to minimise disruptions.

The financial heartache has become too much for second-hand car dealer of 30 years Lyle Teakle.

The 58-year-old is closing up his GT Car Sales yard for good due to a heavy drop in passing trade.

He said his business had been hit by a $50,000 loss in the last three months.
