Tale of two cities

Sunday has become the busiest shopping day of the week in Perth according to Commerce Minister Simon O’Brien, but Geraldton is still no closer to deregulated trading hours.

Perth shoppers have been voting with their feet and their wallets as sales have increased by 3 to 6 per cent each month since the introduction of deregulated trading on August 26.

According to the Shopping Centre Council of Australia more than 20,000 shoppers visit Perth’s major shopping centres on a Sunday.

Geraldton residents took to the Guardian’s facebook page to voice their opinions on the issue.

Yvonne Cangemi said Geraldton needed to “get with the times” and have a wider range of shopping choices seven days a week.
