Let's have some Curry Den

It seems we are crazy about Indian food, as Geraldton’s second Indian restaurant opens within 16 months.

Curry Den, located on Chapman Rd at the premises previously occupied by Curves gym, opened its doors for the fi rst time on Saturday.

The new restaurant specialises in authentic northern Indian cuisine.

Owner and chef Jeet Sharma was born and raised in Jalandhar.

His passion for food was instilled in him by his grandparents, spending hours in their kitchen learning about spices and the secrets behind traditional Indian cooking methods.

He completed a cookery course in India fi ve years ago and then moved to Perth where he spent four years working as a chef at the Novotel Langley Hotel.

Mr Sharma transferred to All Seasons Geraldton six months ago to gain some local experience in the industry before opening his own restaurant.

“It has been a dream of mine to open a restaurant since I was a child.

“I used to say to my grandparents; one day I am going to use all your secrets in my restaurant, and now it has come true,” he said.

It has taken three months to complete the shop fi tout, including a new kitchen equipped with a traditional tandoori oven.

Mr Sharma said there was a market for a second Indian restaurant in Geraldton because people always wanted to try something new and different.

“People appreciate good things and now they don’t have to go to India, they can enjoy the best of India here,” he said.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, dine-in or takeaway six days a week, closed Tuesdays.
